Thanks to the PR people for The Dreaming Tree, I received and tasted a sample of my very first rock-star-made wine: Crush 2010 ($19.99/13.5% ABV), a red-wine blend from rock-band talent Dave Matthews and winemaker Steve Reeder. Oh, and Constellation Brands.
On the nose: Cooked fruit, smoke, sweet spice.
On the palate: Ripe, jammy black and red fruit, vanilla and sweet spice, round mouthfeel, acceptable acid, smooth tannins.
Overall: A balanced, pleasant mouthfeel, with a decent, if not lingering, finish.
Serve it: While I likely wouldn't serve this wine with a grilled, rare rack of lamb, I would be happy to pour it alongside burgers or barbequed ribs sporting a zippy red sauce ... and maybe even a grilled pork chop that had soaked in an Asian-inspired marinade.
Buy it: Find this wine at B.C. Liquor Stores and drink it now. Reeder says it best, "I make wines for people to drink. I don't make wines for people to put in their cellar."
