I received a bottle of Tinhorn Creek 2009 Chardonnay as
part of a gift package from the organizers at Eat.Drink.Tweet., a social media bootcamp for the wine and culinary industries last weekend in Penticton.
Tinhorn Creek sits on the South Okanagan Valley's famous Golden Mile, just south of Oliver, B.C. Come April 1, you'll be able to enjoy fine food to pair with their wines on site at the soon-to-be-opened restaurant, Miradoro.
I cracked the Chardonnay open the other night and served it along side oven- roasted chicken pieces I had rubbed with Blueberry Hill, just one of the many flavourful spice/rub combinations served up on the meats at Sidecut restaurant in the Four Seasons Whistler.
On the nose: green apple and butterscotch to start, followed after about 20 minutes by salty, butter-and-truffle-oil popcorn.
On the palate: green apple, lime, bit of smoke, and caramel, combined with great acidity and a full, silky mouthfeel.
I was surprised by this wine's 14.3% ABV and pleased by its under-twenty-dollars price tag of $17.
Salut!
